Once
noted down in the scroll of coat of arms mentioned above the family of knights
owned the right to their personal coat of arms for all times and generations.
Whereas originally the coat of arms were a privilege reserved to the noble
men, later on also civil families and corporate enterprises took to it.
Nowadays, the coat of arms have lost their significance in relation with private
individuals. This is presumably a consequence of the developed and current
social conditions. However, traditional shooting clubs and other traditional
societies still use them.
Additionally, the state and the different countries and communities frequently
employ them as means to maintain their identity and traditions (for example
with flags). In the sector of the economy the coat of arms was replaced more
or less by the so called “logo”.
The registration of the coat of arms is the responsibility of the "Herald,
Society for heraldry, genealogy and similar sciences" in Berlin. The
Herald founded the German scroll in 1922 (DWR) in succession of former also
governmental institutions. Since 1925 it exists and is recognized officially
as an association for the admission, registration, certification and publication
of the coat of arms of German families. We do not know yet if our family is
represented in the DWR, I think we are not.
Heraldry is an auxiliary science of the historical branches of science.
